                                         Room 2 News - December 15, 2011

Dear Parents,

Last night’s Kamishibai presentation was a huge success!  It was wonderful that so many of you were able to make it.  All of the children did a nice job reading their stories, and it was delightful to see all of the smiles in the room.  We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Dianne Clouet, the BEEP coordinator, and after you had the opportunity to listen to her storytelling I’m sure you understand how much fun we’ve had!!  The children either have already or will be bringing their kamishibai home.  If you were unable to attend last night, please take the time to let your child present their story to you.  Dianne would really love to have the kamishibai  returned to school in April so that they can be displayed for Arts Night.

In literacy we have been reading books that detail celebrations around the world.  It’s fun for the children to make connections to the text by looking at how some of our celebrations are similar.  We are also working on writing a report about a December tradition at home.  Please be sure to look for these by the end of next week, I’m sure you will enjoy reading them!  We are continuing to visit countries around the world to learn about their celebrations and traditions.  This week we have been to England, and will arrive in Germany today!  Did you know that it is believed that the tradition of sending holiday cards originated in England?  School children would make cards to show their parents how their handwriting had improved!  The children had fun making some holiday cards this week, be sure to check them out.  Today when we visited Germany we made gingerbread cookies, and we will decorate them tomorrow...yum!

In math we are continuing our work with the number system.  The children are currently looking at patterns and developing fluency with skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, while solving problems.

    Have a restful weekend :)
