Stahley Newsletter 12/9/11

                              Room 2 News - December 9, 2011

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have been busy this week checking out celebrations around the world.  So far we have learned about lost tooth traditions, the art of Japanese paper theater storytelling, Kwanzaa, and we have visited Mexico.  The children  made a representation of a pinata earlier this week, and today they will make an mkeka mat with their big kid buddies.  Pinatas are used in many celebrations in Mexico, and the children are familiar with these as they are sometimes used to celebrate birthdays in our country.  During the celebration of Kwanzaa the mkeka, or straw mat, is put on the table and stands for the past or history of African-Americans.

Just a few reminders:

**  Lunch envelopes are due back on December 14th!

** Make It/Take It Craft Event tomorrow, Saturday,

    10:00-11:30.

** Kamishibai Night is next Wednesday, December 14th

I hope you are able to join us for some fun over the next few weeks.  Don’t forget to let me know if you have a tradition you would like to share with the children.
