Grade 2/Stahley News
11/22/11
Dear Parents,
It was nice to conference with many of you recently. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the work your child is doing in school. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please contact me as soon as possible so we can get together to discuss your child’s progress. It now looks like Kamishibai Night will take place after the holidays. The children are almost finished, but they need time to practice presenting their stories. I will make sure to give you plenty of advance notice as to the date and time of our kamishibai celebration!
In literacy we have been reading stories about Native Americans and some of their traditions. Although the characters in these stories are fictional, the children are able to get an idea of the Native American culture. They made a longhouse and will be bringing it home, along with a coil pot and a story telling doll that they made when we read a story about Pueblo family traditions. Please ask your child to tell you about these items over the holiday weekend!
In math we just finished our study of geometry. Our new unit of study will focus on addition and subtraction and our number system. A family letter detailing the mathematics in this unit was sent home today with your child.
The book order that was sent home in last week’s take home folder is due back by December 9th, so we should be able to get your order processed and delivered before vacation. Your child is bringing home their Gratitude Journals today. I hope you enjoy reading and sharing them over the holiday, they are very sweet!
Happy Thanksgiving! Have a restful few days :)
