Room 3 Newsletter
November 17, 2011
Hello Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for signing up for conferences, for coming to conferences, for being on time, for being patient when I was running behind, and for calling or coming in to reschedule when needed! I really enjoyed talking with all of you. If you think of any questions or concerns that we didn’t address, feel free to call or email me.
Along with today’s parent letter, I am including our class list. This just includes the people from whom I received permission slips to put them on the list. Please use this list whenever possible to arrange play dates and send birthday party invitations. I hope that it’s helpful.
In the last week of math classes, we ended our geometry study with a short study of symmetry. Today we began our next math unit, which will build on our number sense and understanding of the operations of addition and subtraction. Today we practiced story problems with more than two addends. Ask your child if he/she can make up a story problem with three addends for you to solve!
In literacy, we are reading a book called My Grandma’s Patchwork Quilt. We are practicing making text to self connections. Ask your child what this means. We are coming to the end of our chapter book, The Tale of Desperaux, a dramatic tale of a mouse, a princess, a rat, and the battle between darkness and light. Ask your child to tell you about it. In writing, we are finishing our descriptive paragraphs about our special places. Ask your child what special place he/she wrote about, and what interesting words he/she used to describe it. We also bound our “Books of Gratitude” today. Your child will bring it home next week to share with you during the Thanksgiving break.
We also had another fabulous Four Winds lesson today! Ask your child about it.
This will be my last parent letter until after Thanksgiving, so until then, I wish you well. Happy Thanksgiving! In class, we have been talking and writing about what we are thankful for. I am grateful that I get to work with this group of kind, thoughtful, funny, positive and hardworking group of children every day.
Below is a schedule for sharing, back by popular demand! On your child’s sharing day, he/she may have a few minutes of our morning meeting time to tell us about something special or to show us something from home. Ideas for sharing include things children have made, things found in nature, photographs, a joke, a story, etc. It need not be a material thing. Please write it on your calendar, and help your child remember to prepare something. Aside from your child’s sharing day, all toys should be left at home.
DATES OF NOTE
Tuesday, November 22: Primary Sing in the library at 2:10.
November 23-25: Thanksgiving Break
Week of November 29: Book Fair in the library
December 20: Primary Sing
Sincerely,
Sarah Rosow
