Vocal Music is offered once a week to every class at Green St. School. Andy Davis teaches Kindergarten through Second Grade and Anthony Speranza teaches grades three through six.
The curriculum for grades three through six is entirely structured and largely dedicated to listening, singing, playing percussion instruments, and movement. In addition, third graders also study the recorder once a week.
The listening strand is made up mostly of classical music, where each class develops critical listening skills through the compositions of Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Handel and Mozart. Each grade focuses on one of these composers, while supplemental listening includes music of varying genres and time periods.
Singing and playing percussion instruments are based on vocal literature, employing the Kodaly Sol-Fege Method of music education, and the Gordon rhythmic reading system. Vocal literature is drawn from folk music, traditional, jazz, rock, popular music and show tunes, to name a few.
Movement activities occur regularly during class, mostly in the form of dance and steady beat exercises.
Anyone is welcome to attend any music class at any time, just check with the School Office for a complete schedule, or contact through email:
