Here are some new picture books for the season

The Golem’s Latkes adapted by Eric A. Kimmel/ illustrated by Aaron Jasinski
This is the latest of Kimmel’s popular books about the Hanukkah season. The Golem is an old Jewish legend in which the Rabbi creates a creature from clay that is able to protect the Jewish people. In this humorous version, the Golem is used to make latkes for the Hanukkah celebration, but does not stop making them until he is told to “Golem, enough!” (think Strega Nona or The Sorcerer’s Apprentice).

Strega Nona’s Gift written & illustrated by Tomie dePaola
Big Anthony strikes again! When he yields to temptation and eats the special food left for Signora Goat, he misses out on Strega Nona’s magic gift. This story is a fun way to learn about Italy’s feast days, from Saint Nicholas Day (Dec. 6) through Epiphany (Jan. 6).

For the best of both worlds, read Elijah’s Angel: A Story for Hanukkah and Christmas by Michael J. Rosen/ illustrated by Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson c1992.
"At Christmas-Hanukkah time, a Christian woodcarver gives a carved angel to a young Jewish friend, who struggles with accepting the Christmas gift until he realizes that friendship means the same thing in any religion." (Follett) A very sweet book.
Happy reading, happy holidays!
