K - Children have been learning the names of six items of clothing (snow pants, mittens, hat, boots, scarf, and coat) and been reviewing actions (run, walk, jump, dance, swim, and fly). They have learned a French version of Jingle Bells "Vive le vent!".
- Children have spent time reviewing the numbers 11-19 through games of Loto, Football, Morpion (Tic-Tac-Toe) and Tournette (Spinner). They have been working on remembering their colors from last year (red, blue, green, purple, yellow, and orange) and are learning black, white, grey, and pink. They have listened to several French books about colors. They have practiced singing the French version of Jingle Bells "Vive le vent!".
- Children have worked a lot on talking about their families, asking each other "Do you have?" and responding with "I have/I don't have" for their parents, grandparents, siblings, and pets. They played Loto Famille and learned a new family song "J'aime papa, j'aime maman" as well as a new holiday song "Toc toc toc Père Noël." The children got together with their big buddies (les grands) to share their family work. They have recently started reviewing clothing and colors which they will work on in January.
- Children have learned many words for toys (doll, robot, video game, bicycle, guitar, recorder, ball) and have been practicing asking each other what they have or want from that group. They most recently made up a short rap song to that effect. They have been singing "Vive le vent" and "1, 2, 3 Dans sa hotte en bois."
- Children have learned the 4 seasons and the months that go with them, more expressions for weather, and they have acted out an Eric Carle story "Une si petite graine". This month they sang "Souffle souffle souffle donc", "Y'a quatre saisons", and "Vive le Vent."
- Children worked on learning new family vocabulary (aunt, uncle, cousin) as well as learning to ask about family member's names and they created an invented family which they shared with their little 2d grade buddies (les petits). They have then started to learn the 5 Senses in French starting with "Je touche." We have used it to review body parts and things in our classroom as well as learn a new comptine "A ma main". Lastly, they have been learning the verses for "Vive le Vent" to sing at School Sing on Dec. 22.
- Children have learned to talk a lot about their school life (their subjects, what they like/dislike and why, the rooms in the school). They listened to a couple of French teenagers talk about their school life as well. Our children learned how a French 6th grader's school day is different from their own. They recently received letters back from their penpals in Paris and are writing back about their school life. In January we will go online to look at the Paris school. We have our Marché on the last Friday before the holidays. Lastly, the children have been learning the verses to "Fa la la la la", a French version of "Deck the Halls" and they will be singing it at School Sing on Dec. 22.
