Hello Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Green Street School is still collecting food for Project Feed the Thousands. I decided to clean out my cabinets at home and was surprised to find all sorts of items that I didn’t want or need in there! If you can, please send something in to school with your child.

Math

For the next few weeks we will be diving into division! We are starting with smaller numbers and working our way to the bigger numbers. Many of the problems we solve will be in the form of word problems. The main strategy for figuring out these tricky division stories is by using multiplication. You can really help your child a lot by practicing the basic multiplication facts with them. Flashcards are very helpful. Here are some website that could be fun:

Health and Science

We have finally finished our Salt Maps! It was a very fun process for the kids and myself! I was learning right alongside them as we did this project. I am proud that everyone worked so hard to make their maps great! Even though our unit on Vermont Geography has ended, we will still be learning about our great state throughout the year in other ways. Last week we started a read-aloud book called “Green Mountain Hero. This is a non-fiction story about a frontier family from C.T. who came and settled in Vermont around 1778. Ask your child about this book. The family goes through some great hardships and amazing adventures.

Two new units we are starting are:

  • Force and Motion- While learning the basics on force and friction, our main focus will be science inquiry skills. This includes: how to make a prediction, carry out an experiment, record observations and data, and analyze that data to draw conclusions.
  • The Immune System- This is a health unit that will teach us about the ways people get sick, what are germs, how to keep ourselves healthy, the difference between communicable and non-communicable diseases, and our bodies defenses. We will do some fun experiments in this unit as well!

W.O.W

   Last Week:

Cornucopia- A symbol of plenty, consisting of a goat’s horn overflowing with flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

This Week:

Immune- Having resistance to, or being protected from something (like a disease).

Other News

I’d like to welcome our new student Antonio to our class! He started with us this week. The children did a fabulous job of making him feel welcomed by showing him the “ropes”. Many of the children approached me and asked me to give Antonio a lot of “money” to start with so that it would be fair. We are glad you are with us Antonio!!

Have a great weekend!
