News from Ms. Johnson’s Room#6
November 3, 2011
Greetings! We have had a very busy week! Halloween was a wonderful day at Green Street School. We enjoyed some delicious BOO-berry muffins for snack and a delicious banana cake in the afternoon. Our class is getting so good at setting goals for buggets, and achieving it each day, and for each week. All the first graders are working together nicely as a “community”.
In Math we have been having working on repeating patterns and making quilt patterns. We have also been reviewing counting by ones starting at different numbers. We are practicing counting by 2’s and 5’s and 10’s~! We need to continue practicing that.
In Literacy we have begun learning about making sentences. Our sentences are important because they represent our words. We are learning about a sentence frame and finding the subject in the sentence. We learned that the subject is a person, place or thing (yes, a noun). The sentence frame is a reminder that we start sentences with capital letters, a subject and a “stop sign”, period at the end. First graders are doing excellent at this work. We have also been learning about different genres in reading : nonfiction, fiction, and realistic fiction.
Please note that next week we will have an early release on Thursday Nov. 10th for parent conferences. The early release dismissal time is at 11:15am. There will be no school on Friday November 11th for parent conferences. If we do not have a conference time scheduled yet, and the times do not work for you, please contact me at Green Street School.
Two lunch envelopes are being sent home. Please note that there are two days where no lunch menu is listed, please still fill it out for the next three full weeks. Please complete them as soon as possible and send them in. Primary Sing will be on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 2:00pm in the Library. This is a different date, as it was scheduled for the 29th. Please note the change in date.
We will be having our Four Winds on Monday November 28, 2011. Boys and girls are curious about what our topic of study will be.
The snow certainly came early!! Please be sure that your child has appropriate outdoor wear, and that it is LABELED! It is next to impossible to tell the black snowpants apart if they are not labeled. Please label jackets and boots too! If your child wears boots to school, please be sure that they have shoes to wear in the classroom!!!
IT is important for them to have proper footwear in the classroom.
We have a mitten line in the hallway for wet mittens to be clipped.
Please remind boys and girls to put their hats and mittens in their sleeve of their jackets first thing in the morning, and hang them up in the closet.
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
