Vermont schools received the results from the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) tests last week. These mandated tests were given to students in grades 3-8, and 11 in October 2011 as legislated by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. At Green Street School, students in grades 3-6 are tested in Reading and Mathematics. Students in grade 5 are also tested in writing. The tests are also given in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Maine. Scoring falls into four categories: Proficient with Distinction (4), Proficient (3), Nearly Proficient (2), and Not Proficient (1).
As a school, Green Street students scored at a 71% proficiency level in Reading and 64% proficiency level in Math. This indicates that our Reading scores are steady and Math scores have increased slightly. These scores represent a snapshot of your child's learning, based on Vermont standards and grade level expectations from the end of the previous school year.
It's important to note that in the time between October and the present, our instructional staff has been working hard to address the needs of all students. We look at data from many ongoing assessments to guide our instruction to help students achieve their academic potential. If you have a child in grades 3-6, you will be receiving a detailed report of your child's NECAP results at March Parent-Teacher Conferences. This is a good time to discuss the progress your child has made throughout the school year. Thank you for your ongoing support.
