Safe Routes to School logo contest winners

Vermont Safe Routes to School Logo Contest Winners!

We are excited to announce that a winner has been selected for the Vermont Safe Routes to School Logo contest. Emma Li, a 6th grader, depicted children walking and rolling up a path through the center of Vermont leading to the school house. This drawing  has been adapted into the state program’s new logo. The logo will be featured predominately on all of the VT SRTS promotions and will be displayed across Vermont. Congratulations, Emma!
Congratulations also to Mycroft S for winning his age category and to our runner-ups, Olivia S and Zach Z!
The winners and runner-ups are:

Grades 6-8
Emma, Green Street School – Category winner, Overall winner

Olivia, Green Street School - Category runner-up

Grades 3-5

Mycroft, Green Street School – Category winner

Zack, Green Street School - Category runner-up

Please join us in a celebration of this on Wednesday, May 2, Walk and Roll Day. At 8 am in front of the school Emma and Mycroft will receive awards from the state Safe Routes to School committee, and the school will receive a banner depicting Emma's logo for permanent display. They will be thronged by the Green Street School community who has come to school by foot, bike, scooter, rollerblade, or skateboard!

Here it is, by the way!

How cool to roll to school!

Announcements

Don't forget about the little contest going on.  How many combined teaching years are in the Green Street School building?  This would be for teachers only (does not include paras or administrative staff).  We currently have 33 certified staff members.  Stop into the office and take a guess!  The parent with the exact guess in years or the parent with the closest guess to the number of years will be the winner. (prize to be announced later)

Between this week and January 4th, we do have a few parents that are feverishly making calls looking for help with chaperoning for winter sports.  If you can help chaperone for Mount Snow, please e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (Deb Taggard).  For all other sports, if you are available, please e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (Marybeth Sweeney) Any amount of time given will be very much appreciated.  Again, the success of this program relies on parent involvement.  We need our support!

Lunch envelopes are due Wednesday, December 14th.

Third Thursday will be on Thursday, December 15th beginning at 8:15am followed by All School Sing.

There will be a Primary Sing on Tuesday, December 20th beginning at 2:15pm.

December 23rd will be a half day of school prior to the holiday break.  Dismissal will be at 11:30am.  Students WILL have lunch prior to dismissal.  If you have signed up for the bag lunch, they will have that for lunch.  There are no choice lunches on half days of school due to the quick turnaround and getting kids on busses.

We are continuing with our annual Project Feed the Thousands drive.  Please bring in any donations of canned goods, toiletries and non-perishable foods.  We will have boxes and buckets in the front hall and encourage families and community members to make their donations.  The drive will continue through December 22.    On the 22nd, the Student Senators will be heading to Hannafords for a Fill the Bus Event sponsored by WTSA, 96.7.  Tune in between 10-2pm to listen to the GSS Senators!

If you missed the last PTA meeting, the next one is scheduled for after the holidays, Monday, January 9th.  Since New Year’s falls on the first Monday of the month, and we felt we need to continue the montly meeting, we hope you can join us the following Monday.  Agenda items to be discussed will be the after school programs, restructuring the PTA committee and the name of the committee.  If you have other items you would like added to the agenda, please stop into the office and let us know.
